Back to the basics

For the past couple of days, in between catching up on housework, I played around with the basics of shadowing, shapes, and water drops (my favorite, perhaps?). There are plenty of YouTube videos that give you exercises on hatching and cross-hatching, using a blending stick, and so on. When I feel kind of stuck, practicing the basics certainly can't hurt and usually results in an idea for a new path to follow.
