Getting out of the rut... one minute at a time

Too many things to do in the day?
Too much housework, cleaning, yard work?
Can't seem to find the extra half hour to sit down and do a "proper" sketch or work on that project you've left out on the table in the back room because you just never have time to set foot in there?
Do you have a flat surface you sit at/near every day?
• Kitchen table
• Computer desk
• Coffee table
• Kitchen counter top
• Bathroom wall (I kid you not!) (with a bit of scotch tape)
• Nightstand
Find a piece of paper (suggestions, newspaper, junk mail envelopes, receipts <-- especially good because they're small, or a sheet of printer paper that is used on one side).
Find a pen. Or a pencil. You probably have some of these lying around the house. A marker (Sharpie-like) might work better on printed papers.
That's it. That's all you need. Put one of these pairs on the flat surface you find yourself near.
*O*N*E* *M*I*N*U*T*E*
When you pass by this piece of paper and its accompanying friend, the writing implement, it will act on your subconscious like mistletoe during the holidays.... you'll start searching for someone to kiss... er, someone to sketch! Or something. Whatever is nearby. Doodle!
And the best part of this is.... you can gather up the pieces, throw them in a box, and send them off to be recycled AND NO ONE EVER HAS TO SEE THEM BUT YOU.
No one will judge you.
And you will be one quick sketch or doodle closer to your goal of being better than you were yesterday.
Close that gap that Ira Glass talks about, one minute at a time.
Oh, and if you find you end up spending more than one minute, well, you'd probably like to spend a little more time under the mistletoe, too, now, wouldn't you?
Have fun!
