With practice, doodling, scribbling, random squiggles on whatever paper you have on hand can develop into themes and stories, and work as a creative outlet for your life.

Lynda Barry is a genius at expressing her quirks, memories, and foibles through her collage/art/writing/comics. If you are not familiar with her work, have a look on internet - there is plenty written about her.

One book in particular, What It Is (2008), gives suggestions to encourage those who would like to become writers, singers, and artists. The designs on each page are intriguing and delightful and give you the feeling of "I can do that!"

The next, and most important, step, is to actually pick up a writing implement and set it down on the paper. You CAN do it!
