Using up odd scraps of paper

If you have some old magazines or newspapers, some glue, and some paint, you can make one of these very easily.
Cut the pages into rectangles or squares, roll them up, and glue the flap on each one. As you work, try to make them consistent in size, unless you don't need a flat surface when you're done. Experiment!
After they are rolled and completely dry, get out the paints. I used acrylic gouache here. Use your favorite colors or those that math a theme you're trying to create. Paint the rolled scraps and set them aside to dry.
Here, using white gel pen I wrote a quote from Rumi on a scrap piece of black board used for framing pictures, and glued that piece to a white square background board. The base of the project is, again, the black board, or anything stiff enough to hold everything when it's glued together.
Working from the center (not the corners), I started gluing the rolled pieces in the colors I liked, and continued with the flat sides first. Then, I filled in the corners with a variety of lengths of rolled piece. Finally, I glued on the quotes and attached a cord on the back for hanging on the wall.
Fun and easy for an afternoon's work.
